An elaborate border of seashells surrounds a Hudson River landscape, beautifully rendered in the rich cobalt blue characteristic of early historical Staffordshire. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe reverse bears a cobalt American eagle backstamp identifying the scene as \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e“HIGH LANDS \/ HUDSON RIVER \/ NEAR NEWBURGH.”\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e Interestingly, this 6½-inch form has also been documented as \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHighlands at West Point, Hudson River\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, with surviving examples bearing the same Near Newburgh backstamp. This period discrepancy between the printed title and identification of the depicted view is a fascinating feature of the pattern. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe underside also carries an \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eimpressed Enoch Wood \u0026amp; Sons eagle mark with Burslem, Warranted and Semi China\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, further identifying its Staffordshire manufacture. Excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks or nicks noted. Fine overall crazing and minor evidence of age are consistent with a piece approximately 200 years old.
