Its romantic landscape depicts the Ponte Salaro near Rome, derived from a late eighteenth-century view of the Italian countryside. Rendered in a wonderfully rich, dark cobalt blue against a warm creamy ground, the scene is surrounded by an elaborate floral border and distinctive gadrooned edge. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis substantial oval serving platter can be dated precisely through the impressed “F14” factory date mark, indicating production in February 1914. The reverse also bears impressed factory markings along with the early blue printed Copeland Spode Tower backstamp. Now more than 110 years old, it is an exceptionally well-preserved example of early twentieth-century English transferware. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMeasuring an impressive 15 inches in length, this generous serving piece is beautiful and functional for presenting roasts, poultry, vegetables or an abundant arrangement of fruit.
