RARE Antique Japanese Imari Porcelain Scalloped Plates with Gilded Rim - 3 Available
Japanese Imari Arita wear was first produced in the early 1600's in the Japanese town of Arita. The plate is decorated with a fluted/paneled body extending out from the decorative center with the panels widening slightly as they approach the scalloped outer edge.
The plate has assorted designs & color combinations in 6 sections with elaborate gilding throughout. The exterior of the plate has a cobalt blue design that encircles the outer border with a double ring around the outside of the foot ring and a single cobalt ring on the inside with an underglaze marking (hallmark of a very old piece). This plate dates at least to the Meiji period (1868-1912) or possibly earlier. Comps for these very rare plates in excellent condition are $250-$400 each and holding their value.
