With his wonderfully expressive face, furrowed brow, and rather disapproving gaze, this little gentleman has character to spare!

Beautifully modeled in a seated position, the pug features a creamy biscuit-colored glaze with rich allover crazing, hand-painted facial details, and a chocolate brown collar tied in a bow at the back. His removable head serves as the lid, revealing the hollow interior originally intended for storing tobacco. A delightful and highly decorative piece of English pottery, equally at home among a collection of Staffordshire figures or displayed on a gentleman’s desk.

Details

· Origin: England
· Maker: Staffordshire, unattributed
· Period: 19th century, Victorian
· Material: Glazed earthenware
· Form: Seated pug tobacco jar
· Features: Removable head, hand-painted details
· Finish: Cream glaze with extensive crazing
· Dimensions: 8”H x 8”W
· Condition: Age-related crazing and minor wear consistent with antique pottery; see photographs.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0608/8038/8303/files/62A299E3-88F1-4FC0-A354-65EC415DC466.jpg?v=1791821804
