The Oriental-inspired landscape appears almost dreamlike beneath the glossy glaze, with deep pools of inky blue and softer, smoky passages creating the dramatic character so admired by collectors of early English flow blue.

Even more intriguing is the maker’s history. The backstamp bears the name J. Wedgwood, associated with John Wedg Wood, a descendant of the celebrated Staffordshire Wood pottery family, and Josiah Wedgwood by marriage, has long been a fascinating footnote in English pottery history. With its traditional handleless form, deeply dished saucer, and exceptional cobalt saturation, this is a wonderful little piece of Victorian Staffordshire history.

Details

· Maker: John Wedg Wood / J.
