Its romantic landscape depicts the Ponte Salaro near Rome, derived from a late eighteenth-century view of the Italian countryside. Rendered in a wonderfully rich, dark cobalt blue against a warm creamy ground, the scene is surrounded by an elaborate floral border and distinctive gadrooned edge. These early Copeland Spode luncheon plates can be dated precisely through their impressed factory date marks. One bears the impressed “U27” mark, dating it to June 1927, while the other bears “S28,” dating it to September 1928. At 9½ inches, this versatile size is lovely for luncheon, salads, desserts or smaller courses and layers beautifully with the larger Tower dinner plates. Equally appealing away from the table, the richly detailed cobalt decoration makes these wonderful additions to a blue and white plate wall, cabinet or hutch. Very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. Minor surface or utensil wear and other signs of age may be present. Please review photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

Measurements: approximately 9½” diameter
Maker: Copeland Spode
Pattern: Tower, Blue
Origin: England
Dates: June 1927 and September 1928

Sold individually.
