An exceptional and increasingly scarce example of early nineteenth-century English transferware, this antique Spode Blue & White Drainer features the celebrated “Boudron Castle” pattern from Spode’s renowned Caramanian Series, produced between 1815 and 1833. Measuring an impressive 15 inches long by 10 inches wide, this historic piece represents one of the most desirable periods of English blue and white ceramics.
The Caramanian Series was inspired by the publications of explorer and archaeologist Luigi Mayer, whose illustrations documented the architecture and landscapes of the Eastern Mediterranean. Introduced by Spode in the early nineteenth century, these patterns captured the public’s fascination with exotic destinations and remain among the most important and collectible transferware designs ever produced.
This drainer depicts Boudron Castle, featuring dramatic architectural ruins, bridges, trees, and landscape elements rendered in a beautifully soft pale cobalt blue. The intricate scene is framed by a refined geometric border, while the pierced surface reflects the drainer’s original purpose as an insert for a matching serving platter, allowing meats to rest above collected juices.
Today, early Spode drainers are highly sought after by collectors of transferware, blue and white pottery, and English decorative arts. Their striking forms make them equally appealing as wall displays, shelf décor, or statement pieces within a curated collection.

Condition
Beautiful antique condition with age-appropriate wear consistent with more than two centuries of history. Light crazing, firing characteristics, and manufacturing variations are consistent with early nineteenth-century English pottery. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description.

Vintage and antique items cannot be refunded or returned unless it has been damaged in the shipping process. We require photos of the item(s) and packaging, (which will help us to assess the handling process and prevent further losses.) After which point you will be issued a full refund on your order.

If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

Damages and issues
Within 10 days of delivery - Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
Exchanges
The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item. You have 7 days from the delivery date to initiate your return on NEW items only.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded in store credit once approved.
