This extraordinary cut glass bowl dates to the American Brilliant Period and is most likely attributed to Christian Dorflinger & Co., one of the most revered names in late 19th-century American cut glass. Based on extensive research with the American Cut Glass Association (ACGA) and comparisons to historic, out-of-print Dorflinger catalogs, the pattern closely aligns with Sultana, one of Dorflinger’s most celebrated and scarce designs. Dorflinger did not acid-etch marks into his glass; instead, original pieces were typically identified with gum paper labels, long since lost on most surviving examples. Attribution today relies on pattern recognition, cutting quality, and form—areas in which this bowl excels.
The bowl features a dramatic sawtooth rim, with deeply cut sides displaying bands of diamonds interspersed with stars, circles, and diamonds-within-diamonds—resembling finely cut windows that catch and refract the light beautifully. The base is particularly striking, showcasing a fully realized floral motif that spans the entire foot and transitions seamlessly into the surrounding pattern, a hallmark of superior American Brilliant craftsmanship. The glass sparkles brilliantly, passes the traditional ring test, and has substantial weight—clear indicators of true American Brilliant Period cut glass. Exceptional antique condition. There are a few minor flea bites or slightly sharp points to the touch, consistent with age and hand-cut glass of this period. No cracks or repairs observed.

Comparable examples of the Sultana pattern are exceedingly difficult to source. A significantly larger punch bowl in this pattern has sold for $2,500, making this rare and beautifully scaled example an excellent opportunity for collectors of American Brilliant Period glass.

We have a 7-day return policy on NEW items, which means you have 7 days after receiving your item to request a return. You will be refunded in store credit to be spent at Shoplilliangrey.com within 6 months.
Vintage and antique items cannot be refunded or returned unless it has been damaged in the shipping process. We require photos of the item(s) and packaging, (which will help us to assess the handling process and prevent further losses.) After which point you will be issued a full refund on your order.

If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

Damages and issues
Within 10 days of delivery - Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.

(Some items have endured some alterations to their original state and will be sold AS IS. Please take note of each item's description to see if the unique character is suitable to you.)
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
Exchanges
The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item. You have 7 days from the delivery date to initiate your return on NEW items only.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded in store credit once approved.
