Antique English TShell Snuff & Trinket Box with Silver Cartouche, Footed, c. 1880–1910 – 3”W

A wonderful diminutive antique tortoiseshell box, beautifully proportioned and exceptionally well preserved.

The rectangular wooden box is veneered in richly figured tortoiseshell, displaying striking amber, honey, and deep brown mottling across the lid and sides. Fine metal stringing frames the geometric panels of the lid, centered by a simple silver cartouche.

The hinged top opens with its original working push-button clasp to reveal a vivid pink-red paper-lined interior. Four tiny rounded feet elevate the box slightly and complete its charming miniature form.

Likely originally intended as a snuff, needle, or small personal trinket box, today it would be equally beautiful holding rings, small jewelry, seals, or other tiny treasures on a dressing table or desk.

Condition: Excellent antique condition, approximately 9/10. Working clasp and all four feet are present. One small chip/loss to the upper left corner. Interior paper remains remarkably vibrant with expected light age-related wear.
