Antique English Corinthian Brown Transferware Pearlware Tureen, Lid & Stand, c. 1830s–1840s

An exceptional early 19th-century English covered tureen with its original matching stand, decorated in the Corinthian pattern in rich brown transferware. Dating to approximately the 1830s–1840s, this three-piece set includes the footed tureen, fitted lid, and shaped underplate or stand. The elaborate transfer decoration features romantic classical ruins, architectural elements, distant landscapes, water, florals, and foliage, all framed by richly detailed floral borders. The lobed tureen rests upon four raised feet and is finished with molded handles, while the fitted lid completes its distinctive early 19th-century form. The underside of the tureen bears an unusual printed mark reading “Tidmarsh & Brown, Manufacturers, No. 4 Rosemary Lane, London, Established 1755.” Historical records document the Tidmarsh ceramics business at No. 4 Rosemary Lane over several generations, with Tidmarsh & Brown recorded there by the 1830s as a London china and earthenware concern associated with Staffordshire wares. The matching stand bears the decorative “Corinthian” backstamp surrounded by an ivy wreath, with the letter B beneath. The exact pottery responsible for manufacturing the service has not been conclusively identified, so I have conservatively catalogued the set as English manufacture, marked and retailed by Tidmarsh & Brown of London, rather than attributing it to a specific unidentified pottery.
The ceramic body and characteristic cool blue tint visible where the glaze pools are consistent with English pearlware of the period. A nearly identical Corinthian tureen and original stand in blue transferware has also been documented as pearlware and dated circa 1830. As the body of this example has not been independently tested, I have conservatively described the material as pearlware/glazed earthenware. Very good antique condition considering its nearly 200 years of age. The original fitted lid and matching stand are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The tureen has an old repair to a chipped/broken area along the upper rim, with a small associated hairline and minor remaining loss. The repair is largely concealed when the lid is in place. The tureen also exhibits considerable age-related browning and staining, along with crazing and other expected evidence of age and use. Please review all photographs closely, including the detailed photographs of the repaired area, as they form part of the condition description.

We have a 7-day return policy on NEW items, which means you have 7 days after receiving your item to request a return. You will be refunded in store credit to be spent at Shoplilliangrey.com within 6 months.
Vintage and antique items cannot be refunded or returned unless it has been damaged in the shipping process. We require photos of the item(s) and packaging, (which will help us to assess the handling process and prevent further losses.) After which point you will be issued a full refund on your order.

If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

Damages and issues
Within 10 days of delivery - Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.
Exceptions / non-returnable items

That item is now yours, we can only refund you in store credit for Shoplilliangrey.com if the item was damaged in the shipping process. (Some items have endured some alterations to their original state and will be sold AS IS. Please take note of each item's description to see if the unique character is suitable to you.)
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
Exchanges
The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item. You have 7 days from the delivery date to initiate your return on NEW items only.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded in store credit once approved.
