Antique English Oak Biscuit Barrel with EPNS Silver Plate & Ceramic Liner, c. 1890–1910 – 6.5”H

A handsome antique English biscuit barrel crafted from richly grained oak and fitted with EPNS silver-plated mounts.

The barrel-form body is constructed from individual oak staves and bound with silver-plated bands, complete with a swing carrying handle, fitted lid, and decorative shield cartouche to the front. Inside, it retains its original white glazed ceramic liner, designed to keep biscuits and dry goods fresh.

The oak has developed a warm, beautiful patina, while the silverplate shows the soft mellowing and age-related wear expected of an antique piece.

The ceramic liner remains intact and functional. The oak shows stable age-related separation along the stave joints on both sides, visible in the photographs, but the barrel remains structurally sound and presents very well overall.

These English biscuit barrels were popular tabletop and sideboard accessories during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Today, it would be equally charming for biscuits, sweets, wrapped treats, bar accessories, or simply as a decorative piece.
