Antique Sheffield Plate Figural Squirrel Pedestal Nut Bowl, c. 1900 – 8”H

A wonderfully whimsical antique Sheffield silverplate nut bowl featuring a beautifully modeled squirrel perched along the rim.

The generously proportioned bowl rests on an elegant pedestal foot and has a classic rounded form with a brilliant silverplate finish. At the rim, a dimensional squirrel sits poised among molded naturalistic details, giving the piece the charming figural quality so beloved in late Victorian and Edwardian tableware.

Pieces like this were designed for serving nuts at the dining or drawing-room table and often incorporated woodland motifs such as squirrels, acorns, leaves, and branches. Comparable figural silverplate nut bowls are documented from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 

Today it makes an especially striking centerpiece filled with nuts, candies, ornaments, or simply displayed on its own.
