Antique English Tshell Trinket Snuff Box with Silver Cartouche & Bone Feet, c. 1900–1920 – 3”W

A beautiful diminutive antique English tortoiseshell box with wonderfully rich mottling and an elegant slightly domed lid.

The exterior is veneered in richly figured tortoiseshell with deep brown, amber and honey coloration, accented by fine metal stringing and a small silver cartouche centered on the lid. The box stands on four tiny bone feet and retains its original-style push-button clasp.

Opening the hinged lid reveals a particularly charming blue paper interior decorated with tiny gold star-like motifs, framed by a gilt border. The contrast between the dark tortoiseshell exterior and jewel-toned interior gives this small piece wonderful presence.

Originally intended as a snuff, trinket, cufflink or small personal box, today it would be beautiful for rings, small jewelry, desk treasures or simply displayed as part of a collection of antique boxes and dressing-table accessories.

Condition: Very good antique condition. Exterior presents beautifully, all four bone feet are present, and clasp functions properly. Interior shows age-related wear and patina consistent with use.
