A beautiful and highly decorative mid-19th-century oil on tin, circa 1850, painted after Franz Xaver Winterhalter’s celebrated portrait of Mlle Virginie de Sainte-Aldegonde with her mastiff.
The composition depicts the young Virginie seated beside her large dog in a romantic landscape, a subject closely associated with Winterhalter’s elegant aristocratic portraiture. Rendered here on a petite scale, the painting has a wonderfully intimate quality, with soft coloring, fine detail, and an especially charming child-and-dog subject.
The work is painted in oil on tin and remains in excellent antique condition, with the painted surface presenting beautifully.
It is housed in its original antique gilt wood frame, complete with decorative period detailing and an oval gilt mat. The frame retains wonderful age and character, with expected rubbing, surface wear, and minor losses to the gilding consistent with its age.

Original gilt wood frame is approximately 7/10 condition, showing expected age-related rubbing, wear, and areas of gilt loss. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

We have a 7-day return policy on NEW items, which means you have 7 days after receiving your item to request a return. You will be refunded in store credit to be spent at Shoplilliangrey.com within 6 months.
Vintage and antique items cannot be refunded or returned unless it has been damaged in the shipping process. We require photos of the item(s) and packaging, (which will help us to assess the handling process and prevent further losses.) After which point you will be issued a full refund on your order.

If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

Damages and issues
Within 10 days of delivery - Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.

That item is now yours, we can only refund you in store credit for Shoplilliangrey.com if the item was damaged in the shipping process. Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
Exchanges
The fastest way to ensure you get what you want is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item. You have 7 days from the delivery date to initiate your return on NEW items only.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded in store credit once approved.
